November 29, 2007 SKUSA SuperNationals Report

With the introduction of the new S5 Junior category, Team Top Kart USA and Kartel Motorsports fielded both Brendan Phinny and Taylor Miinch. Qualifying was no surprise after practice times with Brendan taking pole position for the heat races followed by Taylor. Both drivers were using Swedetech power and were the class of the field all weekend long. Brendan would start pole for the final and never look back taking a seven second victory. Unfortunately Taylor was caught up in a wreck at the start, which also took another Top Kart driver, Timmy Bachman out of the mix.

Ty Matta was the loan Top Kart in the TaG Masters field and would show his strength straight away with pole position. Running consistent throughout the heat races Ty would line up second for the main where he would eventually finish. This was a great showing for Ty's first SuperNationals.

Seven drivers from Top Kart competed in the biggest field of the event with eighty entries, TaG Senior. Conor Daly, Chris Wehrheim, Chris Scribner, Robert Stout, Neil Alberico, Adam Johnson, and Brandon Underwood all at one point during the weekend showed top ten-speed. In qualifying, Daly and Wehrheim would post the best results with a fifth and a sixth. Unfortunately, Wehrheim would have trouble in all three heat races, which forced him to race in the LCQ, which he would win handedly. The Final was a wild one with Alberico being collected in an incident on the opening lap. Conor Daly and Chris Scriber would run up front all weekend to finish sixth and eighth respectably. Wehrheim would have the drive of the race passing twenty-two karts in twenty-five laps to finish in ninth position following Scribner across the line.

Bas Lammers made his first trip to North America after winning the final round of the Dutch ICC championship along with being crowned the 2007 Champion. Unfortunately during qualifying, Bas would have clutch problems and qualify sixteenth followed by Kyle Wiegand in twenty-first and Matt Jaskol in twenty-third. Bas would be the only driver with three clean heat races and started fifth for the Final. Bas was one of the fastest drivers throughout the heat races. In the Final, both Kyle and Matt would be caught up by an incident at the start of the race. Bas joined many other drivers who fell victim to tire failures.

Next up for the team is the PRI show where Kyle Wiegand, Matt Jaskol, Conor Daly, and Chris Scribner will be racing for Top Kart. Bryan Herta, Joey Hand, and Marco Andretti will be representing the team in the Masters division. For more information on Team Top Kart USA please visit http://www.grandproducts.com.
